The next day we went to a quaint restaurant called The Carriage House Cafe. The kids enjoyed pancakes in the shape of their initials while the grow-ups sipped mimosas and feasted on eggs benedict. Afterwards we walked the Downtown Ithaca Commons area and checked out some really cool shops.
Yes, I stole the above title from the locals, but it’s spot on and explains the beauty of this hidden oasis tucked in to Upstate New York. We hiked to some of the most beautiful areas of the state. We started out with a visit to Cornell University and checked out the amazing views of central NY among the cool Gothic architecture. The student housing looks like something out of Harry Potter movie. We visited the four story dining hall and walked past both libraries, the student housing area and then took a walk out onto the suspension bridge overlooking Foaming Falls on Fall Creek. We descended the 110 steps to get a closer look at our first gorge of the day. The suspension bridge gave us a breathtaking view of one of the five finger lakes in the area.
Later that day we took a picnic to the Taughannock Falls and the kids went for a dip clothes and all. Another amazing gorge for the kids to frolic in and for the grand finale a breathtaking waterfall and dessert at Purity Ice cream.
Wow this was one really cool weekend. We loved Ithaca and all of its beauty.
